Is it OK That I Am Secretly Laughing?

When most moms hear their kids nightmares I am sure they do so with a great deal of empathy and understanding knowing just the perfect thing to say to help their child feel better. I wish I could say as much.

Emma came down the stairs crying this morning because of a nightmare that she had. I asked her what was wrong and after her making Lauryn leave the room, she began to tell me about her "Nightmare."

Apparently I let them watch too much of A Christmas Story this holiday season because Scott Farkus (the redheaded bully) had followed her to our house where he hid in her closet. When she opened the door, he was there making fun of her and saying, "Go on CRRYYYYY. Cry baby CRYYYY." I guess she didn't get to have the resolution that Ralphie had by beating him up til his nose bled into the next year because she was really upset about it.

I don't know why but it struck me as incredibly funny that she was so upset by this dream that she could barely tell me about it through all the sobbing. I did maintain a touch of self restraint and didn't laugh until I was upstairs in the privacy of my bedroom.

Hopefully, one day when she stumbles across this blog and sees this post she'll find it humerous as well. Otherwise, I don't think I'll get that nomination for Mother of the Year after all.
